With the weather looking so good, sunshine and all, I decided to head out to a local estuary mark and try my luck.

I hadn’t paid too much attention to the tides beforehand, but by the time I arrived, the ebb was already about an hour in. I started working my way along the beach, casting into the gullies in the hope that something might be lurking there, gradually making my way towards the main estuary channel.

Once I reached the narrowest section of the channel, I cast upstream and began retrieving against the strong outgoing tide. It didn’t take long before I felt a hit, and I was into a small schoolie bass, hooked no more than seven yards from the shore!

After a quick photo, the fish was safely released. I continued fishing for another hour or so, working the area in the hope of another take, but that was the only action of the session.

Not a bad result for a casual session in the sunshine!
